Mr.Gene Franklin is a native of Arkansas. He graduated from Arkansas A&M College, (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) with a BS degree. Shortly after graduation, he entered the United States Army, where he served on active duty for three years. After his release from the Army, he began a career in education. Gene received a MS degree in educational administration from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and an administrators certification, from the Arkansas Department of Education. During his career in this field, he served in many positions, including high school principal and district superintendent.
Gene’s service in the U. S. Army totaled 30 years. This service included four years in the Arkansas Army National Guard and 20 years in the U. S. Army Reserves. He served in both Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom, retiring in 2003. During his career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit and the Bronze Star Medals. He has also won three Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals and three Army Achievement Medals as well as many other service awards.
Because of his many life experiences in education and the military, Gene comes highly qualified to lead the Human Resources Department of the United States Soldier’s Foundation.
