Shirley M. Martin brings 36 years of experience in Human Resource Management to the United States Soldier Foundation. She served 12 years in the active Army as an enlisted soldier and an officer. She also spent 24 years in the Army Reserve. While in the Army Reserve, Shirley deployed to Germany to support contingency operations in Bosnia and mobilized for fourteen months for Operation Iraqi Freedom.
She has 13 years of corporate experience in personnel, training and operation positions with Federated Department Stores. For the past 14 years she performed duties as the Deputy Personnel Officer, Human Resource Officer and the Directorate of G1 for the 377th Theater Sustainment Command. As a human resource officer in the military Shirley served soldiers and families for three decades, managing personnel programs to support their well-being and ensuring their quality of life was in keeping with Army standards.
Shirley is currently the Louisiana Department President of the Reserve Officer Association, a professional organization chartered by Congress to advise legislative officials on military issues. She is also a member of the Mayor’s Military Advisory Committee in New Orleans and a member of the Women’s Army Corp Veterans Association. Shirley attends protestant chapel services at the Joint Reserve Base in Belle Chasse, Louisiana, lives in Algiers, Louisiana and is married to her husband of twenty-seven years, Mr. Henri Martin.
